Special Weapons Assessment Facility - Crane, IN
Location
The Korte Company was awarded the design-build-furnish contract for the Special Weapons Assessment Facility at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Indiana.
The project consists of three separate components. The 7,752 sf Two story Firing Range Facility includes equipment repair, four firing bays, weapons storage, ammunition storage, break room, range office and control room. A portion of the first floor level roof area also serves as an open firing deck with removable railings.
The second component is an adjacent 3 Cell Magazine structure constructed of cast in place concrete below grade. The third component is construction of two (2) Type E Box Magazines, to house ammunition, which are 5,112 sf, each. Included in the awarded project are 13 building structures being demolished on the base, 12 of which are below grade magazines. In addition to the structures, Korte interiors will furnish equipment, fixtures, tables, etc.
This project is located on a base that has adopted a Base Exterior Architectural Plan (BEAP) which sets a standard of quality and appearance for a military base in order to provide a consistent new construction and architectural theme. This project is in compliance with the BEAP standards and is consistent with the surrounding architecture and landscape environment.
