Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Dormitory
Location
The Design-Build 400-room dormitory is arranged in a very efficient five-story 'H' configuration with a central core area, including the main building stair and elevators. The main entrance is centrally located within the northwest facade of the building and includes a canopy which extends from the circular drop-off area to the front door.
The reception desk is located immediately to the left of the main entrance with a large area to the right. Lounge seating for 25 people and associated coffee tables and end tables are provided within this space. With a central access point to the courtyard, the outdoor area has been designed to incorporate many outdoor amenities for the student population such as a volleyball court, basketball court, Crossfit exercise area, horseshoe pits and a covered picnic area.
The exterior appearance of the facility is in alignment with the existing indoor training facility. The same red/brown brick masonry that is commonly used at the existing campus is being maintained at the new dormitory. This material is used as thin-set masonry within tilt-up wall panels, and as full-width masonry veneer at some secondary building elements and site walkway and ramp walls. The beige wall color that is used with various existing exterior building materials is incorporated into the upper levels of the precast concrete exterior of the new building.
The medium-grey metal color that is used on various FLETC campus buildings for cap flashing and downspouts is used for similar components within this new facility. In addition, this metal color is used for canopies consisting of insulated metal panels and metal soffit at the courtyard building entrance/bicycle storage area and the utility/dock area. This same medium-gray color is used for the standing seam metal roofing at the indoor training facility. The design of the new dormitory includes the same material for the majority of the roof area, as well the use of this material for the wall and roof overhang at the roof level.
