Leaf Manufacturing and Distribution Plant addition

In the 1990s, Leaf had become one of the world’s top ten confectionery companies; it was especially strong in non-chocolate products such as pastilles and chewing gum, and of course — The Heath Engish Toffee Bar. By 1993, Leaf was the fourth largest candy producer in North America.

The Korte Company completed the 250,000-square-foot addition using a conventional steel frame with an insulated precast exterior wall. The building was designed with extensive electrical and mechanical installation including 30 roof-mounted HVAC units to allow zoned conditioning throughout the plant.

The project included the construction of a microbiology laboratory, which allowed microbiological tests to be completed before releasing the product from the warehouse, a significant advantage allowing Leaf to respond more quickly to customer orders.
