Special Forces Indoor Firing Range – Fort Lewis, WA

We delivered this 24,000-square-foot indoor firing range construction project for the Special Forces Command at Fort Lewis.

Because of the ballistics used within the facility, special specifications were required, including an 8-inch-thick, poured concrete roof. To support the roof system, we used concrete trusses measuring 24 inches thick, 14 feet tall and 89 feet long on 20-foot centers. On the perimeter walls, we used Tilt-Up panels measuring 7.25 inches thick, 13 feet tall and 48 feet long.

We designed the firing range to prevent bullets from penetrating or escaping its wall and roof. The facility contains 14 firing lanes, each 50 meters long with a steel bullet trap at the target end. Each lane measures 6 feet wide with an additional 2-foot, 8-inch clearance between the walls and the end lines. The facility also contains a range officer control room, classroom, bathrooms, mechanical rooms, electrical room and storage room. The entrance lobby and firing range are connected through a single corridor. A bullet trap collection system and air vent system are also integral elements of this project.
