Special Weapons Assessment Facility

The Korte Company was awarded the Design-Build-Furnish contract for the Special Weapons Assessment Facility at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana.

The project consists of three separate components. The 7,752-square-foot, two-story firing range facility includes equipment repair, four firing bays, weapons storage, ammunition storage, a breakroom, range office and control room. A portion of the first-floor level roof area also serves as an open firing deck with removable railings.

The second component is an adjacent three-cell magazine structure constructed of cast-in-place concrete below grade. For the third component, we constructed two 5,112-square-foot Type E box magazines to house ammunition. As part of the awarded project, we’re also demolishing 13 building structures on the base, 12 of which are below grade magazines. In addition to the structures, our interior design team — Korte Interiors — will furnish equipment, fixtures, tables and more.

This project is located on a base that has adopted a Base Exterior Architectural Plan (BEAP). The BEAP sets a standard of quality and appearance for a military base in order to provide a consistent theme for new construction and architecture. This project is in compliance with the BEAP standards and is consistent with the surrounding architecture and landscape environment.

We’re proud to build for our nation’s best — on-time and on-budget. Learn more about military construction at The Korte Company.
