USPS International Service Center – San Francisco, CA

At The Korte Company, we build to the highest standards of disaster-resistant construction. This facility has stood up to some of the most powerful earthquakes in recent years and is one of our finest builds.

The San Francisco International Service Center was a large gut-rehab project with a super fast-track schedule in a saturated construction marketplace. The existing, 40-year old building required asbestos and lead abatement, massive seismic structural modifications, complete replacement of roof and roof deck, complete removal and replacement of the exterior façade, and the removal and replacement of the building structure and all dock equipment.

We installed more than 70 high-resolution security and access-control cameras to meet United States Postal Service (USPS) standards. And we provided extensive site work to meet municipal and USPS standards. Plus, we finished the project in six months — perfectly within the tight design and construction schedule.

The San Francisco USPS International Service Center is built one mile from the San Andreas Fault and is a major mail distribution center in the Bay Area. As a direct result of the work we completed, it has survived a magnitude 5.1 earthquake in 2001, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake in 2004, and a magnitude 5.6 earthquake in 2007. In August 2014, the strongest earthquake in 25 years struck Northern California’s Bay Area. The facility is unscathed.

We’re experienced in disaster-resistant construction, and not one of our facilities has ever buckled under any storm. Learn more about all of our warehouse and distribution construction work.
