Hangar 5 recapitalization – Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, WA

The Korte Company was selected by Naval Facilities Engineering Command to provide Design-Build services for the renovation and structural upgrade of a 55-year-old existing hangar located at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. Our team completed the project in three phases.

We designed and constructed the repairs and renovation to recapitalize Hangar 5 and meet Life Safety, Health and Environmental requirements. Special requirements included seismic repair, Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection improvements, Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility security requirements and Navy/Marine Corps Intranet standards. We also delivered a site parking lot to comply with Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection requirements.

We also delivered all design and construction work in accordance with sustainable design requirements. The project earned recognition from The Society of American Military Engineers and was a Design Excellence Award Winner, earning the Gold Award.
