Building 2036 and 2038 renovations

We’re honored to build for our nation’s best. In this renovation project for the U.S. Navy, we designed and renovated the interiors of two historic facilities, totaling 20,000 square feet. Originally constructed in the 1940s, the buildings needed extensive modifications, requiring the demolition of nearly all non-structural components.

We renovated Building 2036 to serve as personnel support and administrative areas for the Spectrum Warfare Division.

As part of that project, we delivered an electronics laboratory, open and private office areas, conference room, telecommunications room, breakroom, restrooms and mechanical spaces. But we left the structural shell of the building intact, with the exception of the existing shingled and cement asbestos roof system, which we removed in its entirety. We removed all interior partitions, ceilings, access floor systems, raised concrete floors and associated finishes. In addition, our project team eliminated all of the existing HVAC and electrical from the interior and exterior.

In the Building 2038 project, the U.S. Navy tasked us with completely renovating the facility to support the Radar Technologies and Irregular Warfare Technologies Divisions. Salvaging only the structural components, we added a photonics laboratory, a general laboratory, conference room office areas and a communications room — which we built to the heightened security standards of Classified Open Secret — ICPG 705.2. Building systems for both included sprinkler, fire alarm, mass notification, access control, Intrusion Detection System, telecommunications and cable television. And we installed new mechanical and electrical systems.

The project follows the highest standards of sustainability. We incorporated energy savings measures to reduce Building 2036’s energy consumption to 37.54% below EPACT 2005 using ASHRAE 90.1-2004 and 2007 baselines. Building 2038’s energy consumption achieved 36.76% savings using the same standards and models used by Building 2036. In the end, the project earned LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and meets UFC 4-010-01 Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection standards.
