Tahiti Village renovation

When Summerpointe Resorts needed quick and cost-effective conversion of its old wedding chapel into a restaurant/bar, expanded convenience store and quick service counter, they turned to The Korte Company.

Working with a window between the day after Superbowl weekend and Memorial Day, this project took the 2,500 square-foot chapel and combined it into the convenience store and quick service counter area to expand the food and beverage offerings of the resort.

The new restaurant required converting a portion of the space into a full-service commercial kitchen. This required excavations around existing under-slab utilities and footings to add the necessary ovens, grills, hoods and grease traps to accommodate the expanded use.

The new dining area removed a 50-foot section of exterior wall adjacent to the lagoon pool area and replaced it with a LaCantina folding door system to create an open area feeling all year round. This allowed for the installation of an indoor/outdoor space during the spring and fall months onto the 60-foot-long patio that projected eight feet off the building’s perimeter.

Keeping in line with their Tahitian style, the interior finishes included rich woodwork throughout including the floors, folding doors and bar. A new expansive bar top hosted the relocation of five stand-alone gaming machines that provided a more welcoming area for their guests to scratch their gambling itch. The reflected ceiling was highly stylized with palm fronds designs and decorative fans with matching frond fan blades throughout the seating area.

All of the work took place during normal occupancy which required daily coordination with engineering and management staff members. Considerable care was taken to prevent disruptions to the guests.
