Anderson Hospital – Private Patient Rooms

The Private Patient Room project was a 16,290-square-foot renovation of the second floor of the existing space into a new nursing unit.

The renovation creates 21 new private patient rooms around a nursing support core. In addition, the new private patient room nursing unit allows a number of semiprivate patient rooms in the existing hospital to be used as private patient rooms.

Designed for patient comfort and privacy, STC-rated walls and sound seal hardware on the doors were used to reduce noise to and from adjacent areas. LED lighting was utilized throughout the project and includes dimmer switches to minimize any disturbance to patients. Four of the patient rooms are bariatric rooms that were designed with safe patient handling equipment. All patient rooms are subdivided into three distinct zones for patient, family and staff which allow for efficient inpatient care while encouraging family involvement.

Hospital staff comfort was also addressed by creating a centralized nurse station with two separate support areas on each side of the building, a design that minimizes the amount of travel required to perform necessary tasks while maintaining close proximity to individual patient rooms. Fixed stools also have been placed in alcoves off the corridor that allow the nursing staff to sit while charting at mobile workstations.

The alcoves have integral blind window units which allow patients to be monitored from the corridor. Linen closets have been added to the alcoves which will also minimize the need for staff to enter the patient room to replenish linens and supplies.

Overall, the project supports Anderson Hospital’s desire to enhance inpatient care and shorten the duration of hospital stays. The project was finished early and on budget. The Korte Team is proud to be part of such an important project to the community.
