Civil Engineer Administration/Operations Facility – Beale Air Force Base

The Korte Company and its joint venture partner MACNAK Construction, delivered the 43,000-square-foot Design-Build Civil Engineering Administration and Operations Facility (CEAO) to the 9th Civil Engineering Squadron based out of Beale Air Force Base, California.

In 2013, the existing building was destroyed by fire. Subsequently, a replacement facility with improvements and upgrades was necessary. To provide the base with a functional and visually appealing solution, the design team worked closely with the client throughout all phases of design and construction to ensure the final product would exceed expectations in all aspects.

The new CEAO building incorporated insulated concrete forms, structural steel framing and roof joists to complete the structural aspects. The roof of the building was constructed with a combination of standing seam metal roofing and ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber membrane roofing to provide watertight protection. The exterior envelope included a split-face concrete masonry unit, glazing, and stucco — a solution that was both visually appealing and extremely durable.

The single-story design included office and administration space as well as a command section, orderly rooms, drawings vault and shared conference rooms. The operations section included specific space for flight chiefs and superintendents, training areas, customer service and conference rooms.

A full-service shop area included a utility shop, an electric and structures shop, tool storage and warehousing capabilities for inventory and parts.
