The Korte Company was selected by the U.S. Marine Air Ground Combat Center to deliver a full renovation of Building 1666, a three-story Bachelor Enlisted Quarters facility located at the east end of the Twentynine Palms base in California.
Delivered under a Design-Build IDIQ contract, this 91,000-square-foot project modernized a critical living facility serving Marine personnel. Completed in the summer of 2026, the upgraded quarters enhanced comfort, functionality and code compliance while maintaining architectural consistency with existing campus structures.
The scope included a full overhaul of living units, shared spaces and mechanical systems. New layouts improved efficiency and accessibility, including ten fully ABA-compliant single-occupancy units. Throughout the building, sealed concrete floors, refreshed gypsum walls and ceilings, upgraded fixtures, and casework improved durability and ease of maintenance. Mold remediation and mechanical retrofits met current health and performance standards. Public spaces such as restrooms, laundry rooms and the third-floor kitchen were also renovated.
The Design-Build approach aligned with Department of Defense, UFC and ADA codes and incorporated high-performance, sustainable building criteria. The project adhered to antiterrorism and cybersecurity requirements per current military construction protocols. Design and material selections prioritized lifecycle value, low-VOC finishes, and ease of maintenance. They were developed in collaboration with end users and the MCAGCC A-E Design Manual.
Interior upgrades included a government-approved FF&E package, which balances comfort and mission readiness. Polished concrete flooring, commercial-grade rugs, and GSA-sourced furnishings provided clean, durable finishes across all living and administrative zones. Furniture selection followed Federal Acquisition Regulations and UFC guidance, emphasizing sustainability, consistency and value.
