Madison Luecke: Skills built to last

“To me, The Job Is The Boss means that whatever you are doing, you need to go with the flow of the job… making sure everything is taken care of as best as possible.”
— Madison Luecke, Project Management Intern

Taking the leap into construction

Madison Luecke may be creating a family tradition as she follows her father’s footsteps in construction.

Growing up in the industry, she’s always had an interest in how complex projects come together. That’s why she became an engineering management major at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

This summer, she got to take her interests to a new level as a project management intern at The Korte Company. It gave her the chance to support projects across California, asking questions and learning what it takes to manage large builds from the ground up.

Learning on the move

Madison’s internship took her far beyond a desk in Highland, Illinois. She worked on projects California, from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara to Fort Hunter Liggett in San Jose. She also visited Dallas to see another intern’s Amazon project in action.

“I really like traveling to the job sites,” she said. “I like seeing the crew working and being able to ask them as many questions as I possibly can. They’re so willing to help every single time.”

Each trip gave her a closer look at how projects move from plan to progress as the teams handle any obstacles that arose along the way.

Building a foundation for the future

Madison gained a stronger understanding of construction management throughout her travels.

From learning safety practices to mastering the lingo, she picked up lessons that will serve her long after graduation.

“My vocabulary has expanded so much,” she said. “I didn’t know any construction terms before this internship, and I’ve learned a lot.”

That learning has given her the confidence to step up, solve problems and find her place on the team.

Madison could see how far she’d come by the end of the summer. And she thanked The Korte Company for helping her get there by prioritizing personal development for everyone on its team.

“Being at Korte has really shown me how important it is to put people first at a company,” she said. “I enjoy how they treat their employees, and whether I stay or not, it will really help me moving forward in finding the right company.”
