Finding her voice: Mya Iberg’s summer at The Korte Company

“Construction was totally new to me – but I’ve learned a lot in just a few weeks, and I’m still learning.”
– Mya Iberg, Marketing intern

A new perspective on a familiar name

When Mya Iberg walked through the doors at The Korte Company for her summer internship, she didn’t bring a hard hat. But she did have a strong supply of curiosity.

A Highland native and rising senior at the University of Missouri, Mya had grown up seeing the Korte name around town. She knew of the legacy. She’d heard the stories. But she had no experience in construction — and that’s exactly why she applied.

“I just wanted to try something different,” she said. “And see what marketing looks like in an industry I knew nothing about.”

She’s majoring in business administration with an emphasis in marketing, but her interests go deeper than textbooks. She’s driven by hands-on learning and the chance to turn creative ideas into something real.

“I really like the design part of marketing,” she said. “Whether it’s a hard hat sticker or a social media post, it’s cool to take something from idea to finished piece.”

That attitude fit right in. At Korte, we believe the job teaches, and Mya showed up ready to learn. Within a few weeks, she was editing videos, learning Photoshop, drafting internal graphics, planning social media and even helping us rethink how we connect with younger audiences.

“No two days look the same,” she said. “And that’s one of my favorite things about this internship.”

More than marketing

It wasn’t just the tools — Clipchamp, InDesign, Photoshop, camera equipment — it was how she used them.

Mya started asking better questions and explored how AI could unlock new ideas. And when a photo caption just wouldn’t come together, she’d describe the intent and let the AI platform give her a starting point.

“It helps get things flowing,” she said. “And then I can really work with the body copy and give it the Korte tone.”

Even outside of work, she finds new ways to learn. Using a tool called Notebook LM, she turns class notes into podcasts she can listen to on the go — merging school, tech and self-discipline in a way that mirrors how modern job sites run: fast, efficient and always adapting.

Asked what advice she’d give future interns, she didn’t hesitate. “Just go for it. If you wait until you’re totally comfortable, you’ll miss your shot to grow. You don’t grow if you avoid risk.”

That’s exactly the mindset we look for — and exactly why we’re glad she chose to spend her summer with us.

Mya brought ideas, energy and a fresh perspective to our marketing team. She reminded us that learning never stops — and that the best kind of teammates are the ones who keep showing up, keep asking questions and keep trying new things.

“Give it your all — and don’t be afraid to try something new,” Mya said.

Because around here, the Job is the Boss. And it gives back what you put into it.
