The Korte Company is expanding the Anderson Emergency Department with a new facility south of the current ED, designed to address capacity limits, improve patient flow, and enhance efficiency of care.
Spanning 49,991 square feet, the project includes a 24,900-square-foot ED footprint, an 18,350-square-foot basement, and a 2,169-square-foot corridor connecting the new ED to the hospital’s circulation system. At its core are 26 treatment rooms – 12 designed for specialized services, including trauma bays, pediatric-capable quick-visit rooms, two isolation rooms, two behavioral health seclusion rooms, and a dedicated OB/GYN space for sexual assault cases.
Public-facing areas enhance the patient experience with a welcoming entry vestibule, spacious waiting room, pediatric play zone, bereavement room, and expanded restrooms. Inside, triage and intake areas include two triage rooms, a pneumatic tube system, and a medication room. Additional support spaces include private restrooms, registration, nourishment stations, and storage areas.
Emergency services access has been carefully planned. The secure ambulance entrance features a dedicated EMS room, stretcher alcove, and immediate access to trauma rooms. A decontamination shower, disaster storage, and nearby Point of Service (POS) testing ensure rapid diagnostics and readiness. Nurse stations – with clear sightlines into treatment areas – incorporate a central medication room, EMS communications, provider workstations, and charge nurse coordination space.
Interior finishes align with existing hospital aesthetics, with durable sheet vinyl flooring, gypsum board walls, and acoustic ceilings. Areas such as psychiatric holding and decontamination rooms include robust, anti-ligature fixtures to support patient safety.
