BJC identified the need to provide a consolidation of home infusion pharmacy service into a central location to better serve their patients in need of IV therapy living in both Missouri and Illinois. Located in an existing 23,000-square-foot warehouse in the urban center of Saint Louis, this building brings services from several other campuses together to deliver efficient care under one roof.
The project is centered around a new 7,000-square-foot USP 800 compounding pharmacy. The pharmacy includes prep, processing, and storage areas to support sterile compounding areas of both hazardous and non-hazardous IV medicines. In addition, it provides administration areas, traditional pharmacy along with a receiving dock, storage and a courier logistics entrance designed to dispense a large volume of doses per month. The entire pharmacy boundary is secured and monitored to provide compliance with pharmacy licensing requirements.
The facility houses staff and administration functions to support the home infusion program within a 200-mile service radius. Supporting patients in the local community, the project also included a three-bay infusion suite with patient-facing support, which includes intake, nursing and nutritional support teams.
Given the existing 30’ clear warehouse building had ample volume, the team developed and installed a 5,000-square-foot mezzanine. This new mezzanine houses the building’s mechanical systems. The compounding pharmacy is served with 100% redundant systems that ensure air and pressure relationships inside of each critical space are maintained and monitored for temperature, humidity and pressure relationships. The critical spaces are provided with a full emergency power generation on site.
