The Korte Company delivered a cutting-edge 95,000-square-foot Medical Consolidated Storage & Distribution Center (CSDC) within the Air Base District of Joint Base Charleston (JBC) in Charleston, South Carolina.
This one-story pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) warehouse stores pre-loaded pallets of field hospital medical supplies for immediate global deployment by the United States Air Force.
Strategically positioned on a 10-acre site, the CSDC’s layout allows for a potential 20% expansion in the future. Emphasizing efficient tractor-trailer movement, the site design ensures easy access to various loading points, including the high bay dock with three sectional doors.
The exterior features a buff split-face CMU wainscot, metal panel walls, and a dark bronze standing seam metal roof, meeting the Joint Base Charleston Architectural Compatibility Plan. Internally, the facility comprises packed pallet storage, high bay pallet rack storage, and support spaces, including specialized areas like Biomedical Equipment Testing (BMET) and Lowest Unit of Measure Storage (LUMS).
The interior design facilitates swift access to medical materials, with a 20-foot-high pallet racking system accessed by a guided wire path specialty forklift. The administrative office space, spanning 3,000 square feet, boasts a modern aesthetic and durable finishes.
Building systems incorporate essential elements such as lightning protection, emergency power, mass notification, fire alarm, fiber optic telecommunications, wireless Internet, and cable television.
The project adheres to UFC 1-200-02 High Performance and Sustainable Building Requirements and undergoes third-party verification through the Guiding Principles Assessment to ensure superior quality and sustainability.
