Since relocating to this facility in 2014, Founders Academy has experienced sustained growth, which required the expansion of its facilities to better serve its student body and staff. The Korte Company was awarded the Design-Build contract, resulting in the construction of a 10,396-square-foot single-story annex adjoining their pre-existing K-12 campus in Las Vegas.
The integrated, single-story annex complements the existing school’s architecture and color scheme. It encompasses a nurse’s office, administrative quarters, restroom facilities, one standard classroom for each grade, and specialty classrooms for music and art.
Special attention and design were paid to the music room to ensure it was acoustically isolated from all other areas and did not allow the sound to transmit through the hallways and adjacent rooms. The existing two-story building and the annex are seamlessly connected via a unified roof structure to accommodate student and staff pedestrian flow from within each building.
In order to construct the annex adjacent to the existing building, The Korte Company first relocated the playground to another location on campus, cordoned the construction area, and screened it in from the curious eyes of the students and faculty.
This project took place during an active school year so special considerations were incorporated to guarantee the safety of the eight hundred students and ensure the uninterrupted flow of traffic during peak drop-off and pick-up times.
