The Korte Company is leading the expansion of Knapheide’s manufacturing plant in Quincy, Illinois, located on the northeast side of the existing facility constructed in 1996. This significant expansion includes a range of enhancements designed to support Knapheide’s growing production needs.
The expansion features a single-story, 117,000-square-foot manufacturing plant dedicated to small assembly production. The new space includes two loading docks, racking storage, and a ten-ton crane at the northern end of the building, facilitating heavy lifting and streamlined production workflows.
A two-story office block with a footprint of 4,500 square feet will be constructed on the east side of the addition. The office space will include individual offices, a break room, a conference room, restrooms, a stairwell, and an elevator to accommodate the needs of Knapheide’s expanding workforce.
An expansive 42,000-square-foot canopy will be added to the north end of the plant expansion. This canopy will provide cover for truck loading and unloading operations and will feature a 10-ton crane to enhance material handling and logistics efficiency.
In addition to the main building, site work includes the construction of a 100-vehicle parking lot to the east of the office block, a new road connecting to a relocated tank farm near the electrical substation, and pavement for a laydown area. New entrances are being developed to improve site access. A large area will be paved for storage along the north side of the plant, with updated stormwater controls and landscaping supporting the site’s infrastructure.
As part of the utility improvements, several existing utilities are being relocated, including electrical transformers and services, fire main loop, sanitary lines, and the tank farm. Additionally, the project includes relocating the site lighting and ensuring all systems meet the operational needs of the expanded facility.
This project represents a key milestone in the ongoing partnership between The Korte Company and Knapheide, delivering high-quality facilities that will support Knapheide’s continued growth and manufacturing success.
