For the first time in nearly two decades, Monroe County Electric Co-Op (MCEC) refreshed its member-facing and employee spaces. Serving more than 6,700 homes, farms and businesses across southern Illinois, MCEC maintains 1,200 miles of distribution and transmission line as one of 26 consumer-owned electric cooperatives in the state. When it came time to modernize their work environment, they turned to Korte Interiors to guide the transformation.
The team collaborated with MCEC leadership and staff to create a new atmosphere that reflects the co-op’s values of service and community. In the lobby, we developed a furniture solution that balanced comfort and practicality — two sofas and two chairs arranged to give visitors a choice of seating, whether it’s individuals stopping by or parents with children in tow. The result is a welcoming space that feels both professional and approachable.
For employees, Korte Interiors worked one-on-one with each team member to design workstations that supported how they serve their community every day. Some required expansive work surfaces to spread out large projects. Others benefited from height-adjustable desks for flexibility. And everyone gained improved individual and communal storage. By focusing on individual preferences and shared needs, the new environment enhances productivity and creates a stronger sense of workplace pride.
This project highlights how Korte Interiors helps organizations rethink their environments through thoughtful furniture solutions — ensuring spaces serve the people who use them, day in and day out.
