Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast awarded The Korte Company a contract in September 2019 for the design and construction of a new Navy Gateway Inn and Suites (NGIS) at Naval Air Station (NAS) Key West, Florida.
The new NGIS facility replaced three existing lodging facilities that suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Irma. Located at Trumbo Point, NAS Key West, the project also included the demolition of four buildings (A-648, A-649, A-650 and A-727) on Boca Chica Key, near the main NAS Key West airfield.
The new facility was designed to accommodate transient personnel supporting year-round training operations while serving as a satellite facility for the adjacent NGIS “Fly Navy” lodging facility. The project was designed in accordance with Unified Facility Criteria 4-720-01 Lodging Facilities.
