This Design-Build project turned a historic structure into a bold, modern workplace for Rose Design — a St. Louis-based graphic and web design firm. The space was once home to local artist Mary Englebreit’s headquarters and was originally built as a Greek Orthodox Church in the 1920s. Now, it has been completely reimagined to reflect Rose’s creative identity and corporate vision.
The Korte Company led the renovation, blending historic architecture with modern function. Preserving original masonry and curved structural elements, the design team introduced contemporary finishes and thoughtful spatial planning to support a collaborative, open-office environment. Glass, steel, and natural light were used to complement the building’s classical bones while reinforcing Rose Design’s modern aesthetic.
A key feature of the transformation was the installation of a new light tower beneath the central dome. Once a dark and underutilized space, the sanctuary was converted into a bright, welcoming hub that now serves as the informal meeting space and creative nucleus of the office.
Additional upgrades included new mechanical systems, ADA-compliant features, modernized restrooms and custom-built casework — delivered on time and on budget.
More than a tenant improvement, this project brought new energy to a legacy building — preserving its past while building a space for what’s next.
