This was the first Design-Build project we delivered for SDMI. It’s the fourth diagnostic facility they’ve developed, and in previous builds, they’ve used the design-bid-build method. But their experience with the Design-Build approach on this project has led them to use Design-Build ever since.
We built the SDMI Sunset & Post Center in a newly developed medical office complex in Las Vegas. To match the character of the surrounding complex, the healthcare facility building features a stucco exterior in traditional desert hues.
Energy efficiency gains are realized as a white EDPM roof reflects the hot desert sun to minimize cooling loads. And high, clerestory windows provide natural light in the waiting rooms.
This comprehensive facility provides equipment for MRIs, DEXA scan, X-rays, ultrasound, mammography, CT scans and nuclear medicine.
The client happily proclaims this diagnostic facility was the most cost-effective facility to build and now maintain. We drastically reduced the footprint through value-engineered design solutions. SDMI experienced the value that Design-Build and The Korte Company brought to the table. And, perhaps, they most appreciated the lack of conflict between architect and contractor — not having to mediate issues between the two.
We got the job done — on time and on budget. With no cost overruns. In fact, the only change order came at the end of the project, when we used a deductive change order to provide SDMI close to 2% in cost savings.
