The USPS selected The Korte Company as the Design-Build contractor for the new mail processing annex on a 45-acre site in Oak Creek, Wisconsin just south of Milwaukee.
The new facility is just over 425,000 square feet and features a mail processing workroom with administration, maintenance and employee support areas. Employee support areas include a locker area and lunchroom with two exterior break areas, as well as satellite break areas on the workroom floor.
The facility design also includes a mail platform with 61 dock positions equipped with dock levelers, shelters and truck restraints. Support offices and driver break areas are included along the platform. The site includes 289 visitor and employee parking spots, with 105 trailer and tractor parking spaces.
Precast insulated concrete panels and structural steel have been utilized for the building system. The design of the facility includes all mechanical and electrical systems for the operation of the facility and USPS mechanization equipment. The facility is equipped throughout with access-controlled areas and a security system.
